Description
LANCASTER CO., PENNSYLVANIA JACQUARD COVERLET, red, green, dark blue, natural, having cotton warp and wool weft, with large central floral medallion, spread-wing eagles, and fruit in corners, foliate border, fringe on three sides. Marked at one end "M BY H STAGER MOUNT JOY LANCASTER / CO PA WARRANTED FAST COLLER [Color]". Henry F. Stager (ca.1820-1888), Mount Joy, Pennsylvania. Mid 19th century. 84" X 86".
Very good condition overall, some small stains some wear to edge from use and losses to fringe.

Provenance: From a West Virginia private collection.
Catalogue Note: Heisey notes that Henry F. Stager was born in Pennsylvania, and weaving in Mount Joy, PA (Lancaster Co.) by at least 1843 and noted in tax lists and census reports as weaver through 1870.
