Description
AMERICAN LINEN DRAWN-WORK PLAIN-WEAVE HAND TOWEL / SHOW TOWEL, with cotton cross-stitch and darning-stitch embroidery, darned panel, fringe and cotton cord tabs, rectangular, comprising two panels, there is a 5 1/2" drawn work panel having three long stemmed plants, zig-zag border, that is self-fringed, hang tabs of looped cord; the first panel is hemmed on right edge with selvage edge left, the second panel fringed at the bottom formed by folded piece of linen, fringed ends and attached with needlework insertion; plain with folded top fringe held by geometric motifs, eight-pointed flower flanked by flowering carnations across bottom of plain panel. Likely Pennsylvania. First half 19th century. 68 1/2" x 17 1/2" OA.
Very good condition overall with some toning and scattered minor stains.
