AMERICAN DATED LINEN PLAIN-WEAVE HAND TOWEL / SHOW TOWEL, having tabs at top, with 4 ½" applied knotted fringe at the bottom, one 1" wide drawn-work area above applied fringe; ½" top fold is secured with a decorative stitch; design consists of an "1836" date at top with "barbara miller" interspersed with floral designs and a central medallion beneath the date; later "FRS" initials in Old English style lettering likely added at a later date. Likely Pennsylvania. Dated 1836. 44" x 19 1/2" OA.
Excellent condition with overall toning, very good retention of embroidery colors.
Provenance: From the Allentown Art Museum to benefit future acquisitions for the Museum's textile collection.
