Description
Rome, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A spectacular piece of blown glass with sparkling iridescence. The shape is a low, wide bowl with a pinched neck and narrow spout terminating without a rim. This design was made to minimize the evaporation of precious liquids like perfumes or oils. After the invention of blown glass in the first century CE, glass became easy to mass produce as well as cheaper, and so glass items entered everyday Roman life for the majority of householders. Size: 2.25" W x 4.75" H (5.7 cm x 12.1 cm)
