Ohara Koson (1877-1945) was a Japanese painter and printmaker of the late 19th and early 20th centuries and became a part of the shin-hanga ("New Prints") art movement in Japan. This movement was influenced by European Impressionism and its imagery focused on landscapes, women, and nature. Koson is well known for his serene images of animals and nature.

Impression Very Fine. Superbly executed soft "bokashi" shading to pink/yellow feathers and blue cup; extensive "gauffrage" as feathers; deeply saturated green background with faint "sujizuri" circles; highly detailed, crisp key-lines. Tiny "Made in Japan" stamped verso. Condition Excellent. Strong colors. Clean front and backside; full margins. (Slight age-mellowing. No flaws noted.)
