Provenance: Dr. Bob Brictson Collection.
Framed in a vintage Haitian frame.
Lot Essay:
Music plays from a turntable as food, drinks and dancing make for a lively restaurant scene. Wonderful details include spinning fan and electrical cords hanging throughout in room. Possible self-portrait at far left of Bigaud in a gray suit watching the dancers. His matching hat hangs on the left wall by kitchen. To the right, a woman raises the volume on the turntable.
Wilson Bigaud is one of Haiti's most celebrated self-taught artists of the 20th century. He joined the famed Centre d'Art (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) at age 18.
