Item Details

Description

A beautiful Cellini Craft Mid Century Ladle, ornamented with the silver beaded tendrils that became the classic pattern for Chicago's Silversmith during the Arts and Crafts movement. This modest ladle is handwrought with visible touches of the silver maker in the bowl of the ladle. It is a remarkable spoon, unbelievable that it is hand-made because it curves with such elegance and control. The ladle is in great condition with a lovely patina. Marked with the maker's mark, the S 53 pattern, handwrought and Sterling. Measures 5 1/2 inches long and the bowl is 2 inches wide. Weighs 60 grams, or 1 troy ounce. Cellini Craft was known for its consistent quality in silver and its designs, successfully producing and selling silverware throughout the depression. Ernest Gerlach started the small metal craft shop of Cellini Craft in Evanston, IL, a suburb of Chicago, in 1914, naming his operation after Benvenuto Cellini, the 16th Century Florentine goldsmith and mannerist sculptor. The elegance and design of these ladles embody some of those early organic and Italian Mannerist designs, those that stand out in the Cellini Craft's history.
