Stepan Alexandrovsky (1842-1906) (after), Peasant Beauty in Festive DressChromolithograph after his portrait of a Peasant Beauty in Festive Dress by Stepan Feodorovich Alexandrovsky (1842-1906). The chromolithograph depicting a beautiful young woman at bust length, shown wearing a red sarafan over a white blouse with colorful bead necklaces, her hair under a blue embroidered kokoshnik, signed in Cyrillic S. Aleksandrovskii at lower right, in later mat and framed under glass. Viewable area: 12 3/8 x 9 1/8 in. (31.3 x 23.2 cm); framed: 19 1/8 x 14 7/8 in. (48.5 x 37.8 cm) Stepan Feodorovich Alexandrovsky (1842-1906). The original watercolor on which this is print is based was offered Sotheby's London, 30 November 2010, lot 111. Alexandrovsky was an Academician and graduate of the Imperial Academy of Arts in St Petersburg. He painted watercolor portraits of the Imperial family, including Grand Duchess Elizabeth, cultural figures, most notably Fyodor Tyutchev, and peasant types such as the offered lot. He was a longtime member of the Society of Russian Watercolorists and served as its President from 1902 to 1904. He exhibited at the Imperial Academy of Art and the Imperial Society for the Encouragement of the Arts during his lifetime; today his work is included in major public and private collections throughout Russia.
Condition
Some fading due to sun exposure, the frame slightly loose.
