Description
STAFFORDSHIRE TRANSFER-PRINTED CHILDREN'S CERAMIC PLATE, having an embossed edge with green/blue transfer of a steam train emerging from a tunnel with "NSR" and knot design on the engine for the North Staffordshire Railway, polychrome enamels over the transfer design. Unmarked. Possibly Edge Malkin & Co., Burslem, Staffordshire, England. Circa 1860. 7" D.
One light hairline on rim, otherwise undamaged.

Catalogue Note: The Transferware Collectors Club notes that the "print comes from the title page of 'The Train' which was published by Goombridge, London, 1856-? It was used again in 'The Mother's Picture Alphabet' (S.W. Partridge, 1862)."
