Description
MID-ATLANTIC CHIPPENDALE WALNUT FALL-FRONT DESK, dovetailed case, the hinged fall board concealing an elaborately appointed interior, case with four graduated thumb-molded drawers flanked by fluted quarter columns, applied ogee bracket feet. Poplar secondary wood. Brasses appear original. Refinished surface with mellow color. A very well-made and heavy example. Probably New Jersey or Pennsylvania, possibly the shop of John Williams (1774-1865), Essex Co., NJ. Late 18th/early 19th century. 44 1/2" H, 38 3/4" W, 20 1/4" D.
Excellent overall condition with minor surface wear, light cracks. Feet are old replacements.
