CHESTER CO., PENNSYLVANIA CHIPPENDALE WALNUT SLANT-FRONT DESK, dovetailed case, the lip-molded, hinged fall-board concealing an outstanding interior featuring a highly-figured tombstone-panel prospect door which opens to a stack of four drawers, the upper two set into a removable case hiding a secret rear compartment of two drawers, flanked on each side by a document drawer having fluted half columns to face, a secret valence drawer, and three cubby holes above four serpentine small drawers; the case set with four graduated lip-molded drawers and full dust boards, flanked by fluted quarter columns, the whole raised on ogee-molded bracket feet with distinctive spurs. Interior with scattered inscriptions, including an illegible name in chalk and "1804" with an illegible name in ink. Poplar, yellow pine, walnut, and cedar secondary woods. Replaced brasses. Retains an excellent old surface with rich color. Circa 1790. 44 1/2" H, 41 1/4" x 23".

Excellent condition, one interior drawer and loopers lacking knobs, one rear spur replaced and adjacent foot with a repair.Â
