Description
SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA, POSSIBLY AUGUSTA CO., PAINT-DECORATED YELLOW PINE AND OAK BLANKET CHEST, the hinged rectangular top with through-mortised oak breadboard ends over a dovetailed case, interior with lidded till, applied medial molding above two thumb-molded short drawers flanked by reeded members, all raised on an applied molded cut-out bracket-foot base. Original painted decoration featuring fylfot and six-petal rosettes against a sponged ground. Retains original wrought-iron hinges and escutcheon, and cut-brass drawer pulls. RESERVE. Discovered in Augusta Co., VA. Circa 1800. 26 1/4" H, 58" W, 23 1/2" D.
Very good overall condition with some wear to painted surface and loss to decoration. Scattered wear, losses, and repairs to feet.
