AMERICAN SCHOOL (LATE 19TH CENTURY) NAUTICAL PAINTING, oil on canvas, naïve depiction of a two-masted vessel at full sail, dated "July 4, 88" lower right, on original stretchers, old typed note attached to board verso from Richard Merrill describing the painting's history from a "wharfside" in "East Boston". Housed in a modern frame. Circa 1888. 10" x 14" sight, 12 1/2" x 16 5/8" OA.
Craquelure throughout, painting appears to have been cleaned and revarnished, with possible minor inpainting.
Provenance: Property from the estate of Richard and Madeline Osborne Merrill, Saugus, MA.
