18th century Japanese kashira (metal pommel at the end of the hilt of a sword) with iron body and gold and silver inlays depicting vines with various leaves and tendrils. Elegant design in Japanese taste, superbly made piece with crisp metalwork, metal fittings with old silk cord inside. Length 1 5/16 inches.
