AN AMERICAN LATE CLASSICAL CARVED MAHOGANY SOFA, EARLY 19TH CENTURY, PROBABLY NEW YORK, the crest rail centered by a lattice carved ring within adorsed acanthus leaf carved fluted tube forms to scrolled acanthus carved terminals with graduating bead details, over a shaped upholstered back above a rectangular bench seat within upholstered high outwardly scrolled arms with acanthus leaf scrolled terminals above palm frond detailed "S" scrolled supports, on winged hairy paw carved feet joined by a like decorated acanthus and fluted carved tube form rail, now in fruiting flowering bouquet tapestry upholstery on a black ground. Height: 37" Width: 77" Depth: 29 1/2"

An excellent example, unprecedented design. An apparent repair is noted to the back right corner. A later finish covers the original lovely patina, which is still visible. A later reupholster is observed. There are some very mild chips and wear to the carving occassionally throughout, otherwise in very good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
