Original oil painting by a known student of the Philippines most prominent artist, Fernando Amorsolo. Signed Capercez, Manila, 1957. It is the same laundry washing scene that Amorsolo painted for his "Bathing and Laundry by the River (1965)" and "Lavenderas (1942)" (Laundry Washers), and "Washing Scene (1953)" In fact, the women are wearing the same clothes, the same children are splashing in the water, and the bank is the same (but from a slightly different angle.) Amorsolo and his students would go out and paint en plein air together, studying and painting the same quotidian scenes of life in Manila in the mid 20th century.
