Description
Manner of Herter Brothers,(German/American, active 1864–1906), last quarter 19th century. Renaissance Revival style walnut cabinet having a single door centered with simulated bronze oval panel with allegorical scene, likely Venus assisting baby Cupid riding Bacchus, flanked to each side by step-back ends with shelves and mirror backs and foliate turned supports, raised on a conforming plinth base. Apparently unmarked. Approximate height 51.75", width 61.75", depth 19.25". From the Private Collection of Paul Pattek of Big Canoe, Georgia.
Condition
Structurally sound. Top with staining and surface scratches. Top profile mask on door with replaced nails; protruding through the wood into the interior. Round molded back foot absent. Seam separations. Interior shrinkage with crack interior bottom board. Shelves with scratches and a small burn mark. Small chips and surface wear commensurate with age and usage. Key not located.
