Description
Indian Basketry, Studies in a Textile Art Without Machinery by Otis Tufton Mason. This is the two-volume October, 1904 Doubleday, Page & Co. first edition publication of Otis Tufton Mason's Indian Basketry, Studies in a Textile Art Without Machinery (254 pages in Vol. 1; 528 pages total). The covers (7.5" x 10.625"), yellow/green cloth with basket patterned boards, are partly loose and slightly faded at the spine, but in overall good condition, with no prominent stains and no tears. The insides are very good overall. There is shallow edge wear but there are no deep tears. The only extraneous elements are the blind-embossed ex-libris (E. Murray Todd) stamps to the front of each volume. There are no other stamps or attachments, and no writing. There are 248 clean and unfaded plates, many of which are pasted-in color renderings. Three are loose but complete. One has a repaired tear. There are numerous in-page black and white illustrations. The tissue guards and all text are unfaded and clean. Several gutters are cracked, but the binding is reasonably good, with no missing, and no other loose, pages. There are several corner creases, apparently page-holiding mark downs, but no deep tears, other than the repaired plate mentioned above.
