JAPANESE LACQUERED LEATHER AND CINNABAR JEWELRY BOXES, MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912), TWO, H 5 3/4"-6":Including one red-brown lacquer jewelry box, decorated all around with raised figural scenes; measures H.2 1/4" x 5 3/4" x 4". Together with a cinnabar jewelry box with a carved village scene at the top and rose motif about the sides; measures H.2 1/2" x 6" x 4". From the collection of Mrs. G. G. Scranton, international traveler from the late 1900's to the mid twentieth century. Friend and patron of Mrs. Dagny Carter, a notable scholar, influenced this collection.
Condition
There are chips to the lining of the cinnabar box. The red-brown lacquered box has wear to the bottom and exterior decoration, evident in comparison to the interior decoration.
