Description
Original Erte "Duetto" Bronze Sculpture. Romain de Tirtoff (Russian/French 1892-1990). Numbered 24/500. "Circa 1988, Sevenats LTD London". Total measurements - 19" high x 19 1/2" wide x 7" deep. This magnificent art deco style bronze comes with a COA from Dyansen Corporation. The ninth work in Erte's Treasures in Bronze Sculpture Collection "Duetto" explores magnificently the scope of this legendary 20th century master. The figure on the left shows an Erte costume first created for British film star Aileen Pringle in the MGM movie "The Mystic". The figure on the right attests to the spirit of post-war chic; it lifts us to the level of the poised, modern woman. Here we see Erte's attention to the slim lines of the sleek, unencumbered star, Katherine Hepburn and Grace Kelly. The two silhouettes occupy a single stage. And, standing back, we begin to see a seamless space woven around and between the two figures. Their contrasts interact in an illusion of shifting space, forming a still yet dynamic balance. We discover that although each figure in "Duetto" is distinctly individual - a reminder of Erte's legendary skill - the sculpture as a whole resonates with harmony, two figures unified as in a perfect "Duetto".
