Description
A late 19th century Berlin (K.P.M.) porcelain plaque. Hand painted scene after Gerrit Dou (Dutch, 1613-1675), depicting a scholar sharpening his quill at an open window, seated students in the room behind him. Signed "A. Köhler" lower right. The porcelain is in good condition; small losses to the frame. The reverse side is impressed with the scepter mark above “KPM”, incised number 1259 ¾, and stamped with “Franz Till” of Dresden retailer’s mark. Image 9 1/2 x 11 3/4", in a gilt gesso and wood frame of the period, 17 x 19 1/4" high overall. ESTIMATE $1,000-2,000
Condition
The porcelain is in good condition; small losses to the frame. The reverse side is impressed with the scepter mark above “KPM”, incised number 1259 ¾, and stamped with “Franz Till” of Dresden retailer’s mark.
