Description
Byzantine Empire, ca. 6th to 9th century CE. Superb bronze bread stamp with ring on reverse allowing it to punch loaves with great speed. This was one of the earliest forms of advertising allowing bakers to mark their goods to support repeat business. Three lines of Greek text. Size: 2.25" L x 1.625" W x 1.25" H (5.7 cm x 4.1 cm x 3.2 cm)
