Description
Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Calima culture, Yotoco, ca. 200 BCE to 200 CE. A large, double spouted pottery vessel, an alcarraza, burnished with red slip overall, with a wide strap handle spanning the spouts. Ninety-degrees from each spout are two applied abstract elements on the upper dome that give the impression of an abstract bird figure. Below the dome is a large, bulbous body with a rounded base, implying that the bowl was made to rest in sand rather than on a flat surface. Size: 9.5" W x 9.5" H (24.1 cm x 24.1 cm)
