Description
David Tutwiler (American, Indiana, Illinois 1952 - ) oil on canvas entitled “American Tradition.” Pictured is a circus train being pulled by a smoke belching steam engine through a small, rural town. A few people watch the procession including a small boy toting a bindlestiff over his shoulder, perhaps hoping to run away with the circus. Signed in the lower right hand corner and noted on the back of the canvas “American Tradition” Circus train bringing “The Greatest Show On Earth” Locomotive: American Locomotive Co. 1924 #5629 EX-GTW.” Tutwiler is a graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago and, as do I, seems to be fascinated with the era of steam trains and the gentler time and people who lived then. Sight size is 23 1/2 by 29 1/2 inches and with new frame and linen liner it is 29 1/4 by 35 1/4 inches in total.
