Ming Dynasty Terracotta Tomb Attendant Horse & Rider W/Treasure Box *Rare* W/Thermoluminecence Report - This is a stunning and important Ming Dynasty terracotta tomb attendant, depicting a horse rider holding a treasure box. The pleasant faced attendant is dressed in a tunic with long sleeves, his hands in front of mid-section while seated erect in the horse's saddle and clutching a large treasure box. The horse is standing four square and well decorated with bridle and ornaments of the period. The whole is beautifully glazed in stunning yellow and green colors, including highlights in original red and black cold painted pigments, a superior feature not often found on these works of art and representative of an important tomb which deserved highest quality pottery votive representations. The head is dettachable, as often seen on the largest figures from this period. Important large-scale sculptures such as this one were placed in tombs of the elite and wealthy as significant accompaniment in the afterlife. Condition: Superb, completely original and intact with finely preserved glazes and pigments. The set will come with a Thermoluminecence Report from Laboratory Kotalla, dating the pieces to be approx. 580 years old.
