(1902-1967) Black American writer and poet who gained recognition with his poem "The Negro Speaks of Rivers". Very early handwritten and signed note, 4 ½" x 7" (sight), "Lincoln University", Feb. 4, 1927, an inscription and signature: "For Leon Johnson, my class mate and friend ", signed at bottom. Hughes adds three Greek letters beneath his signature, undoubtedly the name of his fraternity. Toned.
