DALAI LAMA MEETS MAO ZEDONG - CHINESE POSTER
Rare Chinese poster depicting the Dalai Lama, the Panchen Lama, and Mao Zedong at their meeting in Beijing upon the fifth anniversary of the founding of the P.R.C. in 1954. The three are shown seated at a table heaped with breads and fruit, the Dalai Lama smiling broadly. Captioned in Chinese and Tibetan. Splits mended with cello tape on reverse should be conserved, else very good condition. The Dalai Lama visited China for peace talks from from July 1954 to June 1955, meeting with Mao and other Chinese leaders, including Chou En-Lai, Chu Teh and Deng Xiaoping. He still considers Mao one of his greatest influences, "a father to me". From a single collection obtained entirely in China pre-2000.
