(1818-1895) British diplomat and sinologist who produced the first Chinese textbook in English, and also conducted negotiations resulting in the Treaty of Tientsin, which largely ended the Second Opium War and granted broad concessions to Western powers in China. A.N.S., 1p. 12mo., [n.p., n.d.], inviting a friend to dinner. He executes his name "Sir Thomas Wade" in the first line. Ragged left edge, else very good.
