U.S.S. OUACHITA
Carte de visite photograph of the Union gunboat U.S.S. OUACHITA showing the vessel underway, probably on the Mississippi. Back mark by A. D. Lytle, Baton Rouge. Union gunboats USS Manitou and USS Rattler captured the Confederate side wheel steamer Louisville in the Little Red River 13 July 1863. The Navy purchased the prize from the Prize Court at Cairo, Illinois, 29 September 1863, and commissioned her as the OUACHITA in early 1864. She served on the Mississippi for the balance of the war.
