ROBERT BARNWELL
(1761 - 1814) Delegate to Continental Congress from South Carolina, 1788-89; delegate to South Carolina state constitutional convention, 1788. A.L.S., 1p. 4to., Beaufort, Mar. 8, 1790 to Jacob Read (1752-1816) in Charleston, who also represented the state in both the Continental Congress (1783–1785) and the Senate (1795–1801). In part: "...It was my intention to have conversed with you respecting the Judgment given...by McKean, during our stay at Columbia...I have therefore taken the liberty of including you..." He also asks that Read settle the unpleasant business quickly. Trimmed at left, text a bit light but legible. Mounted atop the integral address leaf.
