Description
A fine and rare carved polychrome toy with an acrobat. Appears to be original with the exception of replaced leather reins for horses. Reputed to have belonged to Washington Irving (1783-1859), the noted American writer, historian, and diplomat. Originally in the Sister Magdalen Mary, Gloria Folk Art Collection of The Immaculate Heart College in LA. Sold by Sotheby Parke Bernet in July, 1975, lot 639. Displayed on a later wood base. Dimensions are: 16" long, X 11 3/4" tall. All measurements are approximate.
Condition
Some age wear, one horse has old replacement leg. Fine.
