Description
English. Circa 1780. Signed George Lindsay. The brass dial with silvered chapter ring, with Roman and Arabic numerals, a signature plate, and subsidiary dial for a strike/silent mechanism, the two-train movement with anchor escapement striking the hour; the case with arched hood capped by brass ball finials, the glazed door flanked by fillet-filled fluted columns, the case with a molded arched door above a square base with molded plinth, with two weights, a pendulum and a winding key. Height 7’ 8”. Width 20 ½”. Depth 9 ¾”. (Cond: good, nice color, working movement needs adjustment) (1000/1500) Cf. George Lindsay (1724 – 1776) In 1743 London watchmaker, George Lindsay, was the first to get a patent on a microscope. He was also provided with the title “Royal Watch and Clock Maker” to George the Prince of Wales (later to be King George III)
