Rare Five-Revolution Overture Musical Box by David Lecoultre, c. 1850
No. 1106, playing the overtures to "Zampa", "Tann-hauser", "Freyschutz" and "Guillaume Tell" in one revolution each and "Herculanum Grande Valse" and "Il Bacio Valse Brilliante" in two half-turns of the fifth revolution, with comb of 153 hand-cut teeth with square tips (complete), stamped "D. Lecoultre", brass bedplate, massive lever-wind spring motor, instant-stop, tune-sheet titled "Quartre Ouvertures & Deux Valses", ebonised case with red interior and matching veneered lid with boxwood stringing, inlaid musical trophies in the corners and marquetry motif of dancers and a piper surrounded by flowers and foliage in the centre, 26 in. (66 cm) wide, cylinder 14 5/8 in. (37 cm) x 3 3/8 in. (8.5 cm) diameter, four treble teeth and two bass tips nicely replaced. – The movement is in excellent restored condition, with a full tone and fine arrangements that play for just over two minutes on a complete revolution.
