Modigliani and Lagar were close friends and in 1916 he produced a portrait of Lagar now held in a private collection. Lagar was widely supported by Zborowski Gallery who held an exhibition of Lagar's work in April 1928 along with his wife Hortense Begue, the sculptor. Modigliani's influence on Lagar is particularly evident in the present lot, Nu allongé . Close comparisons can be made to Modigliani's Reclining Nude donated to the Metropolitan Museum of Art by The Mr. and Mrs. Klaus G. Perls Collection, 1997. Lagar's nude drapes her body seductively across the canvas and uses a similar colour palette contrasting grey with deep red against the female's peach colour skin tone.
