Description
Pre-Columbian, Colombia to Ecuador (Carchi) region, Narino Highlands, ca. 1250 CE. A beautiful polychrome pottery, deep walled flared bowl on a concave foot, decorated with elaborate stylized geometric motifs (some with circular forms perhaps representing bird eggs) on the exterior walls, as well as six standing crane birds in profile on the interior border, with a circumscribed eight-pointed star motif on the tondo - all in vibrant red, black, and cream hues via the Narino artisans' signature negative resist technique. Nice manganese deposits. A wonderful example! Size: 6.625" W x 3.125" H (16.8 cm x 7.9 cm)
