Description
A cased set of nineteenth century French servers, each filled handle decorated in low relief with foliate scroll motifs and having a similarly engraved bowl or blade with gilding verso. Each struck with Minerva guarantee mark, the serving knife also bears maker's mark for G. Marmuse (Paris, third quarter of 19th century). Longest piece measuring 11 1/8 inches (28.2 cm).
Condition
Displaying general surface wear, marks, scratches and nicks in keeping with the age and general use. All with some tarnishing and wear to gilding and would benefit from a clean and polish. Heavier wear to gilding on reverse of knife blade. On this piece, there is also now a gap between the ferrule and handle. On one of the other pieces, the Minerva mark appears to be overstruck on a maker's mark. Assay marks are to handles only.
