Item Details
Description
A late Victorian silver christening mug, of circular tapered form with intricate stylised decoration surrounding an engraved monogram and further personal inscriptions, leading to a 'C' shape handle, hallmarked London 1883, maker's mark partly obscured probably Josiah Williams & Co (George Maudsley Jackson), height measures 3 1/2 inches (9cm). Together with an Edwardian silver twin-handled trophy cup and cover, London 1905 and an Edwardian silver caster. Gross weight 11.84 ozt (368.2 grams). (3).
Condition
In fair to good overall condition, the lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. The mug is engraved with the monogram 'RWH' alongside 'July 24th 1887', 'RJLH' and 'July 26th 1983', some minor loss of definition to the decoration. Minor bumps and dents to the body of the trophy cup, some distortion and compression to the foot, hallmarks rubbed and worn but just about legible to the body apart from the maker's mark, hallmarks to the detachable cover clear and legible. The caster has significant dents to the lower body with compression to the foot, remnants of pepper line the interior, would benefit from a clean, retailer's mark to the base for 'T W Harris 13 Brook St'. Hallmarks on the caster and mug clear and legible.
