Item Details
Description
Sir Terry Frost RA, British 1915-2003- ''Development of a Square within a Square'', 2000 (Kemp 201); screenprint in colours, signed and numbered 67/150 in pencil, 58.5x58.5cm, (ARR) Note: Captured in Crete during the Second World War, English abstract artist Terry Frost began painting whilst living as a prisoner of war in Germany. A late starter, Frost was encouraged to pursue his career in art through a chance meeting with the painter Adrian Heath. Having survived the war Frost enrolled at the Camberwell School of Art in London where, at the age of 32, he became part of the London contemporary art scene. He later moved to St. Ives, where his first appointment was assisting Dame Barbara Hepworth on her sculpture for the Festival of Britain, Contrapuntal Forms. His experience with her influenced much of his later work at the forefront of the modern abstract art movement, where Printmaking played a key role.
