Margaret Barnard, British 1898-1992- ''Night Fishing'', c.1927; linocut printed in colours, signed and dedicated in pencil, 21x26.1cm, (ARR) Note: The painter and printmaker Margaret Barnard studied at the Glasgow School of Art c.1922, travelled to Italy and worked on landscape subjects on the Scottish west coast. Her work in lino-cut from the 1930s shows the influence of Claude Flight and the Grosvenor School. She exhibited at the Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts, the New English Art Club, the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Academy. She is recorded as exhibiting a work entitled 'Night Fishermen' at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1938, item 735. Two posters are recorded as having been commissioned by London Underground entitled Winter Cavalcade, 1938 and Leisure Days in the Park, 1939.
