An extremely rare porcelain ink grinder of Ming Dynasty Jiajing period with mark. The clay and the glaze are smooth and unctuous like jade, without later imitations’ glassy surface reflection. The exposed surface shows intense kiln-red that is common for the period. (Dr. Robert I-San Lin’s Collection of Important Chinese Arts, brought to California in 1960s). Height 3 in.
