Since its first publication in 1653, The "Compleat Angler" has become the third most reprinted book in the English language, next to the Holy Bible, and John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress", comprising 456 different editions up to 1989, and countless foreign language translations. It was inevitable, that Arthur Rackham (1867-1939), the greatest English book illustrator of the 20th century, would account for one of the more notable incarnations of "The Angler."
