Unlisted $50 “Stephen Girard’s Banking House” Proof Note
Philadelphia, PA. Stephen Girard’s Banking House. Fifty Dollars. Post Note. Choice India Paper on Card Proof.
Haxby PA-436 Unlisted. PRF Rarity-8. A beautiful Proof, having two wonderful vignettes. The Stephen Girard’s Banking House was a solid and private concern, that eventually became a National Bank. Demure style by Toppan with a Sailing Ship at the lower left and an American Eagle at the upper right. Title at the right and scroll “FIFTY DOLLARS” at the left. Fine slits in the signatures, some prior mount traces on the blank reverse, having wide top and side margins from its positioning at the top of the original sheet. This extremely rare Proof note from the ABN Sale, being the “A” position Proof off of the four note sheet (part of lot 1740).
