This highly ornate printed Lottery Ticket was designed in the form of a membership certificate in the Washington Library Company, of Philadelphia, PA. It was issued in aid of the Riverside Orphan Institute. The Washington Library Company was first organized in 1813 and opened its doors in 1816. This $1 ticket, measuring 2.5” x 4.5” is printed in black on fresh wove period paper, having the printed signature of “N. S. Read” and red serial number. It is well printed, unused, and has four large margins. Very scarce, and nice for display!
