Description
South Carolina Currency
Gem Uncirculated December 23, 1776 South Carolina $1
South Carolina. December 23, 1776 Act. One Dollar. Palmetto Tree vignette. Gem Crisp Uncirculated.
Fr. SC-135. A gorgeous, crisp note that has fresh, clean paper and is well printed and is perfectly centered on its face. There is one signature of “J Wakefield” in bold, vivid brown ink on this remainder. The reverse has four Hebrew letters surrounding the central text, being used as both decorative motifs and as anti-counterfeiting devices, as this note was printed on the very press previously owned by merchant Francis Salvador, the Jewish American Patriot who was killed by the local Indians while on a secret mission for George Washington, who had hoped to enlist their aid on the American Patriot’s side. It didn’t work and the Indians murdered Salvador.
