Davis Gray was a persona created by Massachusetts artist Ernest B. Walden (1929-1995). In fact, there is a confusion about which name came first. AskArt has this info: Davis Gray, the originator of this series, is an award-winning watercolorist with a national reputation. Mr. Gray, a fine arts graduate of Dartmouth College and an alumnus of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, has to his credit a number of watercolor series, of which perhaps the best known are his college scenes. He has won first prize in watercolor at the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts, accumulated numerous awards in painting while at Dartmouth College.

Other accounts list the credits as belonging to Ernest B. Walden.
