Description
This is a very unique and rare authentic French 1785 Louis XVI Peace Medal Silver Coin with the original chain necklace. The piece is from the large collection of Eastern Woodlands Iroquois and Huron artifacts of Ben Thompson. This type of peace medal coin was given to the Eastern Woodland Native American Indian tribes by French militants looking to gain Native favor in the effort of supporting the American colonist against the British during the lengthy French and Indian War period. King Louis XVI was the King of France and Navarre from 1778-1791. He was in support of the American colonist seeking their independence from Great Britain. Many of these silver coins were presented by French diplomats to Great Lakes and Eastern Woodland Indian tribes to gain favor and fighting reinforcement in the French aid of the colonists. The chain measures 24 inches in circumference. Very rare original piece from the Great Lakes and Eastern Woodland Native American Indian tribes.
