Item Details
Description
Fire-gilded bronze, Tibet. 18th to early 19th cent.

Very handsome, small, entirely gilded bronze of the rarely depicted Damcan, who is also known as Dorle and who is counted among the companions of the Mahapancaraja, the “Five Great Kings”. The by far most famous member of this group as well as its leader is Pehar, also known as Vajrasadhu. Here Damcan sits on his mount in a very similar fashion and with the same characteristic headdress, although here his mount is an amusingly crafted billy goat with a lively head etc. Damcan is an old bon-demon deity. In this bronze he makes the gesture of demon defense and has a ferocious face.

HEIGHT (WITHOUT BASE) 8.3 CM

According to information provided, once part of a private Japanese collection.
