Description
Kneeling Figure with top knot and cross hatched hair details, rounded belly, multiple stacked necklaces , bracelets and decorative body modification marks. Facial feature show a broad nose treatment and closed mouth, minimal attention to ears. The patina is consistent with vintage age, drip lines of oil treatment or millet gruel offering are inconclusive. A drying split or age related partial thickness crack is noted on one knee of the kneeling figure. This is a medium density wood carving consistent in style with those of tribal Northern West Africa primitive fetish carvings. 10 ½ in high 2 ½ X 2 ½ in base.Provenance:From a collection of John Rote (1928-2017)Mr. Rote was born in the Netherlands.Attended and graduated from Oxford.Fought in the Dutch Underground during World War II Participant of the 1956 Olympics – Field HockeyJohn Rote, Chairman of The Privateers between 1957 and 1963. The Privateers were the United States field hockey team that competed with international teams, such as Bermuda, England, and Jamaica. The organization originated with the 1956 Olympic team and served to develop the sport worldwide. The Privateers hosted the International Field Hockey Festival each fall in Greenwich, Connecticut. Senator Prescott Bush (father of George H. W.
