Si'ach HaSadeh, homilies on the Torah, by R. Eliezer son of R Meir HaLevi, the Magid of Pinsk. Shklow, [1787]. Only edition.
On leaf 2v is a poem by the author. On the last leaves: Homily for the Festival of Succot, eulogy for R. Aharon HaLevi "Head of the Beit Din and Rabbi in Krakow" dated Rosh Chodesh Adar Bet 1786, "Homily for drought", "Homily for death of children G-d forbid".
The author, the Magid of Pinsk, R. Eliezer son of R. Meir HaLevi (died after 1795), headed the Pinsk Yeshiva during 1760-1780, served as Rabbi of Khomsk in the beginning of the 1780s and returned to Pinsk to serve as Rabbi, posek and preacher. He was close to the Karlin and Pinsk Chassidim and was respected by leading Chassidic figures who extolled him highly. Among his descendants were prominent Chassidic tsaddikim: his sons-in-law R. Meir of Pikov (son of R. Levi Yitzchak of Berdychiv), and R. Yisrael Ber of Stepan (son of R. David HaMagid of Stepan); son of R. Eliezer HaLevi, R. Moshe, served as head of the Berdychiv Yeshiva, and his sons-in-law, R. Yisrael of Ruzhyn and R. Yechiel Michel of Kashivka.
He was a close friend of eminent Chassidic figures, R. Levi Yitzchak of Berdychiv and R. Pinchas of Korets (who praised him lavishly). R. Aharon HaGadol of Karlin used to say that Eliyahu HaNavi was accustomed to visiting R. Eliezer. In a letter he wrote, the Magid of Mezritch called him "My beloved friend of G-d". 132, 29 leaves. 31.5 cm. Condition varies among the leaves, fair-good. Stains, dampness traces. Dark stains in several places. Several leaves have candlewax stains. Coarse tears to the center and margins of the title page, damaging text, restored and reconstructed with a photocopy. Tears affecting text of last leaf and of several more leaves. New binding.
