Item Details
Description
Two Lucas No. 742 , “ King of the Road” brass and steel auto lamps. Manufactured by Jos. Lucas LTD, Birmingham . Both lamps have been modified from the original oil/paraffin fuel and wired for electrified use. Both lamps have the original badge of the Joseph Lucas company and are labeled as model number 742. One lamp has the numbers 1928 stamped into the front of the body behind the lens flange. All the lenses are convex glass, a red and a clear lens in each lamp. Lens aperture is 4 ¾ inches to 6 ½ in max flange diameter. Body of lamps shows normal aging and tarnish, oxidation and heavier patina noted on bases and handles. All lenses are intact with no noted issues aside from surface dirt/dust.Height 14 inches, base 5 ½ in diameterProvenance:From a collection of John Rote (1928-2017)Mr. Rote was born in the Netherlands.Attended and graduated from Oxford.Fought in the Dutch Underground during World War II Participant of the 1956 Olympics – Field HockeyJohn Rote, Chairman of The Privateers between 1957 and 1963. The Privateers were the United States field hockey team that competed with international teams, such as Bermuda, England, and Jamaica. The organization originated with the 1956 Olympic team and served to develop the sport worldwide. The Privateers hosted the International Field Hockey Festival each fall in Greenwich, Connecticut. Senator Prescott Bush (father of George H. W.
